End the nightmare, please!

My outward silence has been obvious by the very fact that this is my first blog in almost 2 years! I cannot be sure anyone is out there even reading this, but I more than ever realize that that was never really the sole reason for starting the blog site in the first place [see http://paulswhyte.com/home/welcome-to-my-blog].  I have been awake but paralyzed, like so many others, by the brazen spectacle in front of me, silently screaming in disgust and outrage until the pressure of my thoughts felt like my mind would violently explode outwards into an uninterested and uncaring world. But silence be damned!

For almost 1300 days (of this Trump Presidency) all my sensibilities and rationality have been constantly assailed by this malignant narcissistic grifter and his sycophantic army of moronic troglodyte followers.  HRC’s 2016 statement about ‘deplorables’ seems mild in hindsight. The sheer simplicity of unthinking tribalism is made manifest every day. So much has already been written and said by so many others on the nature  and personality of Donald Trump that I need/can offer little else of value. All of his innermost personality traits have been in plain sight now for so long it  should come as no surprise to anyone what his desires are – money, more money, and unthinking adoration. Cult of the personality is on daily display constantly fed by fanatical adherents, as well as, endless media attention to der Fuehrer‘ s every utterance however inane, vile, and psychotic.

Having come so far in this nightmarish exercise of raw animalistic emotionalism, there is no returning to a supposed pre-Trumpian normalcy of political expression and reality based discourse. Resurrecting some bye-gone instances of actual bi-partisan policies enacting measures for the public good is the height of wishful thinking.  Those days were never really the norm and their idyllic idolatry today is no antidote to the constantly numbing effects of a heartless Hobbesian exercise in raw Leviathan power [might is right]. Make no mistake, if Trump is not removed from the Presidency, along with his Republican Senator enablers in November through the electoral process, the total disappearance of American democracy and its institutional framework will vanish so fast into an America First fascist regime that it will make your head spin.

Having survived the Mueller investigation, and more importantly the impeachment trial, an unfettered Trump unleashes upon America and the world his twisted version of reality impervious to the harmful consequences such actions often inflict upon persons he swore to protect and serve. Deliberately removing America from its former leading role in such endeavours like the Paris Climate agreement, the World Health Organization [during a global pandemic no less], to withdrawal from nuclear weapons treaties, to recent troop reductions/reassignment of forces to aid NATO and a series of other such moves, demonstrates a myopic foreign policy posture in favour of some still unarticulated  isolationist stance. On the domestic front, everything from separation of children at the border, to recent BLM protests, to avowedly racist tropes, to the deliberate withholding of aid to Democratic governors and mayors in times of need dealing with a pandemic, to refusing to follow and adhere to his own government’s guidelines[wearing masks for example], all give clear evidence of his sadistic vengeful character.

Distraction, denial and outright lying are the most used tactics by Trump to confound people and seed doubt in their minds. One of the more perverse examples of this behaviour is his recent efforts to undermine the integrity of the upcoming elections by falsely claiming that the mail-in process is inherently fraudulent. Casting aspirations on the legitimacy of the election seeds the groundwork for denying the results if they are not favourable to him. Such assertions need to be vociferously rejected at every utterance. So too must a rejection of the notion that his Democratic opponent needs an ‘overwhelming’ majority victory in order to substantiate his winning. Winning a majority number of Electoral College votes is still winning! That number is 270.

There are 90 days left to this nightmare. The amount of vitriol, voter suppression efforts, distractions of every kind, that will unfold from the Trump campaign will be enormous and relentless. Resistance is essential at every turn and nothing should go unchallenged. The upcoming announcement of a VP running mate for Joe Biden will undoubtedly provide fodder to such efforts. Whoever that person is, regardless of whether they are your individual choice or not, RESIST the urge to undermine the ticket and concentrate instead on the ultimate goal of removing from power Donald J. Trump and as many of his Congressional allies/enablers as possible. Failure to achieve that goal will only intensify the nightmare.
